Pre & Post Surgical Information

What to Expect at Admission

  • At your appointment time, the surgical nurse or veterinarian will take you and your pet into a consulting room and go through the admission information.
  • Please advise us at this time if you have noticed any problems with your pet (e.g. lethargy, vomiting, coughing, diarrhoea).
  • You will be required to complete an Authorisation and Consent for Hospitalisation and Surgery Form.
  • We will record any belongings your pet is to be admitted with on this form.
  • On the form you will be required to either consent to or waiver pre-anaesthetic blood testing
  • We require a reliable contact phone number from you.  We MUST be able to contact you if necessary, during your pets stay or procedure.
  • You will be given an estimate of the cost of the procedure.  Please note that this is an ESTIMATE, not a QUOTE.  For many procedures, particularly dentistry and some soft tissue surgeries the extent of the procedure may not be fully known until the animal is anaesthetised and the procedure has commenced.
  • PLEASE ALLOW 10-15 MINUTES FOR THIS ADMISSION APPOINTMENT

 What to Expect at Discharge

  • At your discharge appointment the surgical nurse or veterinarian will review the details of your pet’s procedure and explain what aftercare and medications are required.
  • Your pet will have a “band-aid” on their leg where the intravenous cannula has been.  This can be removed an hour or so after discharge.
  • Patients that have had surgical procedures will have areas of their coat clipped.  An area significantly larger than the surgical wound will have been clipped so that a sterile field can be achieved.
  • Where necessary a follow-up visit will be scheduled e.g. to check gum healing after a dental, to remove sutures or drain, change dressings or check medical progress.
  • PLEASE ALLOW 10-15 MINUTES FOR THIS ADMISSION APPOINTMENT
  • PAYMENT IS REQUIRED IN FULL AT THE TIME OF DISCHARGE.
