My dog is scared of fireworks! Help!
My dog is scared of fireworks, is something we hear alot. Living in inner city Brisbane, or locally around the Daisy Hill, Shailer Park area you are likely to experience fireworks at this time of the year.
What can you do to help your dog on these nights?
1. Provide a den or hiding place where your dog can feel safe.
2. Make sure all windows, doors and doggy flaps are securely closed during fireworks nights, (this will reduce the chances of your pets escaping).
3. Provide distractions, for example new toys or chews, while fireworks are happening.
4. Close curtains and switch on the TV to help mask the noise from the fireworks.
5. Try not to leave your pets alone while fireworks are going off, pets will be more relaxed when they hava afamiliar person with themd uring this time.
6. DO NOT punish your pet! This will only make your pet more distressed.
We also highly recommend Adaptil. Increase your dog’s feeling of security by plugging in an Adaptil diffuser as close to the the den or hiding place as possible, start using the diffuser at least a few days before fireworks are expected.
“Before purchasing the Adaptil diffuser for my 1 year old cavoodle Kirra, I was having issues at night time with her constantly growling, barking and wondering around the house at all times of the night. She began barking for long periods of time at noises and movements occurring outdoors and would not listen when called. She went from sleeping on my bed at night time to sitting just outside my door to watch and listen for anything outside. The barking and growling would wake up the house and Kirra could not seem to relax and fall into a deep sleep. Since having Adaptil diffuser plugged in my room she has showed a vast improvement and is no longer barking throughout the night. She is now back to sleeping beside my bed and is sleeping through the night without any disruptions. I am extremely impressed with how quickly I noticed a difference and happy to see how relaxed she is again at night time” Taylor, Daisy Hill
